Vehicle Management
Vehicles are the core of Camper Split. Each vehicle has its own members, cost configuration, trips, maintenance records, and fuel logs. This guide covers everything you need to know about managing vehicles.
Creating a Vehicle
From your dashboard, click "Add Vehicle" and fill in the details. The vehicle name is required — everything else is optional but recommended for accurate cost tracking.
The odometer reading is important: it sets the starting point for all distance calculations. Enter the current reading as accurately as possible.
Cost Configuration
Navigate to your vehicle's Settings page to configure the shared cost parameters:
- Tax — Tax amount — the vehicle tax, with a period setting (monthly, quarterly, or yearly)
- Insurance — Insurance — the monthly insurance premium
- Contribution/km — Contribution per km — the agreed rate each member pays per kilometer driven
- Shared account — Shared bank account — enable this if your group uses a communal account for vehicle expenses
These settings determine how costs are calculated and split between co-owners. All members can see the configuration, but only owners can change it.
Discuss the per-km rate with all co-owners before setting it. A common approach is to include depreciation, average maintenance, and fuel costs in this rate.
Managing Members
Each vehicle can have multiple members with different roles:
- Owner — Owner — full control over vehicle settings, members, and data
- User — User — can log trips, maintenance, and refueling entries
- Viewer — Viewer — can view all data but cannot create or edit entries
You can invite members by generating an invite link, or add them directly by email if they already have a Camper Split account.
